Evolution of Rap culture
It was the year of 1970 and the place was New York’s South Bronx where
the rap music originally started. The credit for the popularity of the
rap music goes to artists like Grandmaster Flash and Mr. Kool with their
live concerts at the night clubs and promotional music tours. Soon the
rap music became hit amongst the youth.
In 1979 the song ‘Rappers Delight’ by Sugar Hill Gang became the first
viable success which provided a major recognition to the rap music. Even
today rap music is an important part of Afro-American community and some
of the big names in 1980s were Run DMC, L.L. Cool J and Fat Boys. Run
DMC’s debut album ‘The Farewell Tour’ was a smash hit.
In the early times when rap music gave a knock in America it was
listened from an entertainment point of view by the younger generation
from which the majority of them were blacks. As the living was very much
dangerous in the neighborhood so the youth kept on listening and rapping
to keep themselves out of trouble. These black youth were not satisfied
with that kind of music as a result they decided to make a new genre.
Majority of the battles are only just to gain fame and recognition
amongst those who liked rap music. In the late 80s America witnessed the
rise of rappers like LL cool J and Run DMC in LA and Oakland. In the
underground clubs the rappers (most of them were black) used to
communicate their day to day problems and what all situations they had
to deal with, it also happened in the streets also. The rap balances all
the negative elements that the people think and it has gained popularity
with the changing times. Rap also has fields, like nowadays the rock
band like Limp Bizkit are mixing rap with hard rock and on the other
hand you have usual street rap stuff also.
With the latest advancements in the rap industry conflicts and quarrels
have risen significantly which has also resulted in the death of rappers
like notorious b. Nowadays the rap scene has started making use of
electronic gadgets and it has given birth to Hip-Hop which is just like
rap.
These Hip-Hop rappers write and sometimes direct their own songs and
they try to make it more and more meaningful. Those who are famous MCs
they will take the help of radio and will challenge their opponents. No
doubt that the rap songs will contain foul and abusive vocals, remarks
against the opposite sex, but the more popular it will become the more
